The Big Reveal

Good Monday morning to all! I had a fantastic Halloween weekend. Our yearly Halloween bash went off without a hitch. Great DJ, good food and fantastic friends! Lot's of great costumes too!

I know I've been talking about how Halloween is a super busy time for me because of time I spend on our costumes.  This year was no exception. Our costumes were a HUGE HIT! Check it out!

I loved making these costumes. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorite movies growing up. I had originally planned on my hubby being Willy Wonka but he decided he liked the Oompa Loompa better.  I just realized that they didn't take a picture of our shoes. That's a major bummer too. I blew up balloons and drew brown swirls on them to replicate the things the Ooopma Loompa's had on their shoes. So what do you think of the costume in general? Did we pull it off?

Have a great day lovelies!

What a week!

I'm SO sorry that I've been MIA. Halloween is a CRAZY time for me. My friends and I throw a huge bash and go all out on our costumes. I have been in the process of thrifting, painting, and sewing my husbands and mine.  We are going as the same thing. That is as much as I can say right now.

Every year we do this, it's top secret. Our friends try to trick us into telling them what we are but we're stronger than that! lol  So, my lovelies, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until Monday to see our costumes because some of my friends read my blog.

In the meantime, head over to Blue Butterfly Vintage to check out her giveaways! She has some really sweet ones. I'm not saying that just because I'm sponsoring one either ;)

On her blog, she has a "25 Days of Giveaways 2010" which is so freaking awesome ! Stop by, check them out, enter and show her some ♥!  Not only are the giveaways great, she's got a FAB blog too! Remember, don't be stingy, share with your friends ;)

Have a great day loves!

Out and about

At the suggestion of one of my friends, I am occasionally going to start posting "out and about" photos of customers who buy from my shop.  Hopefully, I will be able to convince my buyers to send me pics ;)

My friend Tarsha is wearing  a vintage "tie" necklace. It's a stunning piece. She was my first customer! Thanks so much Tarsha!  Way to work the vintage! ;)

Here's what she wore:

Looking good ladies!

She's promised to send me pics of the project so I can post it here on my blog. I can't wait! We'll have to use our imaginations the meantime to try and figure out what she's doing. Putting it together

We just listed a funky little 60's crocheted dress in our shop! I felt the need to pull it all together with different vintage pieces to complete the look and this is what I came up with. Add some funky orange, yellow or red tights or leggings and it will be perfect!

The belt on the dress will be listed shortly :) Enjoy!

Cover that thing up

Since having my thyroid surgery last week I've been avoiding going out because of the HUGE scar on my neck. Luckily it's cooled down a bit here in Houston and that only means one thing...scarfs!

Hoorah! Just in time for me to make an outing (my girlfriends bday is this weekend).  I wouldn't dare go out with my neck exposed and gross everyone out. If you saw it, you'd agree :)

I have TONS of scarfs but I think it's time to do the "out with the old, in with the new" bit.  I've been perusing Etsy sellers and I found some beauties!

How does one make a decision?

I'm seeing RED

Red lips that is! Now that fall and the cooler weather are here, I'm ready to bust out the various shades of red lipsticks I have and wear them around town. I usually live for the weekends because those are the days I can get dressed up. As much as I love staying home and running my Etsy shop, I do enjoy going out on the town with my husband.  I am usually fair skinned and can pull of the the red lips. However, I'm hoping the tan from the awesome summer I had, fades...and FAST :)

Not the greatest pic, but the red lips aren't too shabby, right? :D

About to go out...ugh, I need a new hairstyle, but I'm lovin the lips

NOW THIS is what I wish my lips looked like:

Of course, who DOESN'T want to look like the FAB Dita

or Marilyn...she's GORG and so sexy!

Well, I'll have to start taking more pics of myself with my shades of red and see which one you all like the best. That may have to be my first poll!

Have a great day lovelies!

Manic Mondays

 More like frustrated Monday...

I know I just had surgery less than a week ago, but I'm ready to do some photo shoots with my model! I have a lot of new items to add to my store. I guess I will have a settle for a hanger and a mediocre background of my house/chair in my house  ;)  I hate to have merchandise just sitting around!

Here are some of the items that will be making their way to my Etsy shop:

80's sweater

Beautiful shoe clips (remember those?)

Woven belt

60's flower embellished cardigan

Not the greatest pics, right? Oh well. When I'm up to getting up without getting tired then I'll head out to the park and take some FAB new pics! In the meantime, it would be nice to be on the front page of Etsy! Hey, a girl can dream, right?

Have a fantabulous Monday!

Surgery Recovery

Hi everyone!

The good news is that my surgery is over and done with and that I'm back at home. Everything went great. My scar isn't as gruesome as you would think (although, I could still pull off being the Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween) ;)

I have been in some pain but luckily I have pain meds for whenever I need them.  Now we play the waiting game. I get the results some time next week.  Apparently, they mass on my thyroid was HUGE and they needed to send it to the lab to test whether it was cancerous or not.  What they do from there, I'm not too sure.  I guess I'll wait and see.

I'm still kind of slow getting up and around so there will still be no Etsy updates until I feel better. It's upsetting because I have so much more to post!  Not only that, but I'm ready to go thrifting NOW! :)

I get tired easily, so off to rest I go....Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers!

Love to everyone!

Halloween and thrifting

With Halloween coming up and us having our yearly party, my niece asked me to convince my son to be a "T-Bird" from Grease (the original) since she is going to be a pink lady. I was able to convince him. Especially since he has the jeans, converse and white t-shirt.  I thought about going to a thrift store to buy him the jacket, however.....my dilemma is the "T Birds" on the back of it.  I did a search to see if there was such a thing as leather paint. Low and behold there is!! My question is, how do you use it? Just like regular paint?  I need to be able to make it look similar to the pic below

What do you think? Would it be possible? If you have any other suggestions on how to accomplish this look, I'm all ears!

My overindulgent Sunday

As the countdown to doomsday begins (will explain in a minute), I've decide to eat, drink and be merry tomorrow. I will not feel guilty for anything I do, say or eat.  It's the biggest game of the season (Texans vs. Cowgirls...ahem, I mean Cowboys) and we are hosting the game viewing/bday party for my daughter tomorrow.  We are having beer, wings, buffalo shrimp, beer, cake, oh and did I mention beer? There will be plenty of beer pong going on as well! I have a strategy....I will LOSE so I can drink more!

All kidding aside, I've decided to overindulge myself because I am having surgery on Wednesday. Specifically, I am having my thyroid removed. Well, the other half, since I've already had the left half removed years ago.

This has been an ongoing pain in my ass since the birth of my son...18 years ago. Long story short, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on meds (which have never helped me at all) and then a partial thyroidectomy.  Ever since then, I've struggled with my weight, constant fatigue, small bouts of depression, MAJOR memory problems just to name a few.  A few years ago my primary care doc noticed another goiter on the side. I was like seriously? WTF? Can't things just get back to normal. I'm sick of being sick. So here we go again....more biopsies which means more needles stuck in my neck and the anxiety of waiting on the results while we pray that it's not cancerous.  Turns out everything was ok (according to them, because I still felt like crapola!) Oh, and if you don't know what your thyroid is or what it does, check it out here: Function of the Thyroid  Ok sorry, so it wasn't such a short story ;)

Fast forward to present day and I have a HUGE lump in my neck. It's so big it has it's own heartbeat, zip code,  etc.....I feel like I have a second head, that's how big it is. Tired of people always asking me what's wrong with my neck in addition to the times I catch myself swallowing and feeling it obstructing my airway, I felt it was time to ditch this puppy. I went back to the doctor, voiced my concerns and she said "Wow, let's take that sucker out!" Of course, I had and still have major concerns:

1. I will definitely need to be on hormone replacements for the rest of my life
2. A fear of gaining even more weight (I've read tons of posts where people have had the same thing done     and they gain tremendous amounts of weight) (my doc claims she'll get the meds right and that won't happen. Please pray for me)
3. Another scar (of course, this could work to my advantage for Halloween...I could be the bride of Frankenstein)
4. Being laid up in bed for weeks. I remember my first removal. It was not pretty. I couldn't move because I felt the incision would open.
5. Will I ever be normal again?
6. Last but not least...the PAIN! I remember it being pretty painful. It's right up there with giving birth.

So, you see my concern and the need to rock and roll and party every day until Wednesday?

All this being said, I may not be able to post for a while. I know, I just started posting regularly again. I'm sorry, I suck!  I'm hoping I can get through the pain and prop myself up and be a blogging diva! The only thing I won't be able to do is thrift and list my Etsy items....that makes me sad. The vintage lovers out there will have to wait a few weeks for my newest items.

Well, chick-a-dees, wish me luck, pray for me or send good vibes...whatever you believe in. I welcome it all. Until next time...party your little hearts out! I know I will be.

Fall Fashion

Fall is officially here. We all know what that means...BOOTS! I love summer but I love boots more :)
As you all know from reading my posts, my husband says that if I intend on buying new shoes, I should get rid of a pair. I know, ridiculous right? However, my boots do take up a lot of space in my closet and I did find 1 pair that I'm willing to let go. With that in mind, I've started a search for some "new" vintage boots! Look at what I found!

Beautiful, aren't they? I can't decide....well, actually the second and last one aren't my size so those are out. I just thought they were so cute!  I'm leaning towards the maroon pirate boots and the black fringe boots.  Hmmmm, I may have to break out the piggy bank and get both. What do y'all think????
