They have been the most amazing parents one could ever ask for. I admire them to no end. They have been married for 39 years. Their 40 year anniversary is coming up in May. Unfortunately, they won't be here to celebrate with us, but it's ok....they are going to Costa Rica!

Our life was pretty normal and I thank them for that. I always hear all these stories from different people about how horrible their childhood was or how they didn't have both parents around at all times.

Granted, it wasn't always peachy keen, but it was great growing up around them. We had our disagreements (mostly mom and me). Dad was the enabler (heehee) and I was his baby girl (I still am). I have to admit, I got away with quite a bit, BUT my brother got away with a LOT more (with my mom). Can you tell I'm still bitter about this? lol

Even though I didn't get to do a lot of things because of how strict my mom was, I appreciate that she cared enough to set those rules in place. I know I didn't like it at the time, but as I grew older and had Vincent, I knew exactly why she did what she did with us.

Mom and Dad, I love you with all my heart and I thank God for you each and every day. I may not show it all the time, but it's true. Thank you for being such great parents and teaching us right from wrong. I will pass on all those life lessons to my kids and hopefully do as good of a job as you guys did.

Thank you! MWAH!

I need his energy!

I thought this was just too cute and had to share. Check out the little old man busting some moves!

Etsy showcase

My friends have been asking me how my Etsy store is doing. I keep saying, it's ok, but not the results I want.  Today, I decided to look into showcasing my items.  I figure it's worth a shot. The most I will lose is $7.

I clicked on the "purchase showcase listing" and the earliest they have is for Sunday, May 16th! It looks like these spots get sold out fairly quickly. I'm taking that as a good sign. Perhaps just having the spotlight on my store for 1 day will generate a lot of traffic to my store and will result in lots of sales! ;-)

In the meantime, I have a lot more to add this week so that when my store is showcased, I will have more to sell. It's just so time consuming to take pics, upload pics, list the items, describe them, measure them, etc.  That's why  it takes me a few days to put a couple of items on there.  I'm not complaining, it's just that  I've had people ask me if that's all I have on my store.  I have to explain to them that there's more coming, it just takes a little time.

Well, wish me luck.  I will let you all know how the showcase goes.  I have a few friends on Etsy and I'm sure they could benefit from this too, if it works.  I'll definitely let you know fellow Etsy sellers!

What a weekend!

Wow, never did I imagine going to San Antonio for Fiesta and coming home with a new addition to our family.

Our last day in SA and we went to visit my friends aunt. Her dog had puppies and they really didn't want to keep all of them. Of course, being the doggie lover I am, I fell head over heels for the runt of the litter. I asked my hubby if we could keep her and at first he said no, but I finally convinced him ;-)  We now have 3 kids and 4 dogs. A little off balance,  but.....we have 2 girl dogs and 2 boy dogs, so i guess that makes it a little better.  Well, that's what I tell myself. hahaha

And now, to introduce our little baby, Dory (to go along with Nemo our chihuahua) :)

a little blurry, but you can still see what a cutie she is!

My friend, Sarah, also kept one of the puppies. They named her Zoey and she's a cutie patootie too! We said we've got to set up some play dates to keep the sisters together.  I can't wait!

To Prom or Not to Prom?

As you all know, my son is 18 and graduating this year (gulp...did I just say that?).  We were talking last week and I asked him what we needed to do to get ready for his prom.  Meaning, tux, transportation, dinner, etc.  We, he informed me that he's not going! I was really shocked!  I mean, I know his girlfriend isn't in town and he wouldn't be going with anyone in particular, but I thought he'd at least go with friends.

Our discussion continued on by me saying the usual mom thing. This is the only opportunity you'll have to go to prom. You'll miss out on this experience and you'll regret it later.  You know, what everyone tells you if you decide not to go.  He proceeded to tell me that he just wasn't interested in going.  That isn't his scene or type of thing he likes to do (which is true).  He's such a laid back kid, keeps to himself, doesn't go out and stays home all the time.  He's the complete opposite of me!

While I'm sad that he's going to miss out on this experience, it's just par for his entire HS life. He's never taken any interest in any dances or outings. I've had to come to terms that he's not going and although I'm upset about it, I'm still so proud of the man he's become.  He stands up for what he believes in and is a leader, not a follower.

I love my son!

Telenovelas

Since I was a teen, I remember my mom running to her room around 7ish to watch her telenovela. For those of you who don't know what a telenovela is, it's the Latin version of the soap opera with a couple of exceptions.  The plot is always the same and they only last a few months.

The telenovela has been around since the 50's, but became popular here in the US in the late 70's.  Whatever the reason is that made my mom start watching them, I am grateful that is is part of our culture and our traditions. I am a huge novela fan.  I know it's corny, because from the very first episode, you already know what's going to happen, who's going to wind up with each other, who will die and who will live. I love the fact that they are so predictable so I can just enjoy the characters and the actual show instead of stressing myself out about what will happen.

I also love the fact that during my adolescent years, it helped me spend time with and bond with my mom. It would also help me with my Spanish. This fact still remains.  We will call each other during the week to see if the other has seen what has been going on. Unfortunately, at this moment, we aren't watching the same one :( The one I'm watching now is called "Mi Pecado", "My Sin" for you non Spanish speakers. ;-)

Another reason I watch them as an adult is to continue to help me with my Spanish and now my hubby watches them with me to help him with his Spanish. Or so he says...I personally think it's because of the hot chicks on there! hahaha  Either way, it helps us spend a little more time with each other and his Spanish has gotten better with the help of them and his little Spanish lessons he does on a daily basis.

I am trying to continue the tradition, but my son wants nothing to do with them. He thinks they are corny and dumb. He's also 18 and only interested in games.  I'm hoping now to pass it on to my daughter one day. She lives with her mom during the week, so it's kind of hard, but when she gets older (she's only 9 now) then I'll DVR them and try to get her interested. If it works, then great. If not, then I guess we'll move on to something else. Secretly, I'm hoping she LOVES it! I need someone to watch novelas with when I'm old and gray!

I do Yudu?

After countless times watching and re-watching the infomercial for the Yudu, I decided to order it.  The deal I got was try it out for 30 days for $30.  I have this idea for a cutesy t-shirt design which I could sell on Etsy along with my other stuff.  I was so excited when I ordered it. I couldn't wait for it to get here!

Fast forward 2 months later (it was on backorder for a month) and it's sitting in my living room still in it's box! I know, I know...I'm QUEEN of procrastination! Any other crafty person would have busted it out the day they got it. Quite honestly, I had been busy with my jewelry. Photographing and listing on Etsy is time consuming, believe it or not.

I've decided it's time to bust out the Yudu and be creative! So, in the next couple of weeks, I will be setting up, testing and no doubt, screwing up my t-shirts :)  I will post pics (yep, even of the messed up ones) so you can see what I'm working on and give me feedback.

The new Iphone?

I'm really intrigued to know if this is true or not. I would really love it, if it is.  Why? because I want my iphone camera to have a flash!!!!! Yes, that is it! I don't care about more memory, new design or anything else. This phone has been lacking the flash for way too long. Check out the article and decide for yourself

Well, what do YOU think?

Is it a vodka Friday tomorrow?

A few posts back I had mentioned "vodka Fridays" and promised to explain it later on. As I sit here finally relaxing after a long day of cooking, cleaning and preparing for one of my best friend's bday tomorrow, I figured now is as good a time as any.

Vodka Friday's came about quite some time ago when I would work from home on Fridays and my friends would come over for some fun in the sun by my pool. After I was finished with all my work, we would go outside and layout and drink vodka and tonic drinks. Hence the name: Vodka Fridays. This continued for pretty much every Friday until I was told we could no longer work from home :(

Now that I am no longer working, vodka Friday's have started up again (usually when the weather gets warmer). We've only had one so far because of scheduling conflicts, but we are back on tomorrow! My best friends bday happens to land on a Friday, so what better way to celebrate? This Friday however, we will have a brunch for her since her hubby has plans Friday night. So, in lieu of vodka, we will have Mimosas!

I've spent the whole day preparing for her brunch. Cleaning, cooking, and baking. I really hope it doesn't rain (there is a 30% chance). More importantly, I really hope she enjoys herself.

I also wanted to share a recipe from Food Network that I tried today. It's for a mini quiche. Specifically a Mini Mushroom and Sausage quiche. Please see below for the link to the recipe. I did tweak the recipe some by adding bacon, caramelized onions and shredded colby jack cheese in addition to the mushrooms and sausage. Also, I added a tiny bit of salt and pepper to the egg mixture for flavor. I had to prepare all the ingredients separately because the bday girl does not like mushrooms. So I made a special batch for her.

Of course, I had try one to make sure they were edible. WOWSA! They were awesome!

Some of the reviews had said that the mixture was too runny or juicy, but that if you made them the day before, refrigerated them and reheated them the next day they are much better. That's why I made them today. If they are better than they were today, then my guests are going to LOVE me! :) I will let y'all know!

Glee Mania!

Ok, so this is for all the Glee-fanatics out there!  I wondered how Sue Sylvester would pull off Madonna's "Vogue" video. Holy Mother of Monkey! She was fantabulous!  I absolutely love the part when she actually starts dancing.  I also love the jab she takes at Mr. Shuester...funny stuff.  Enjoy!

The Key To My Heart

Shanalogic is by far one of my favorite trendy, punk, indie type shops.  I love the fact that the store supports small indie businesses.

I have to share my new favorite item:

I have my heart set on you ;-)

I've always said I love love. In fact, I call my husband "Love".  I am the biggest believer in forever love, romantic fairy tales and happily ever after.  SO...anything that has to do with a heart or love,  I.....yep, you guessed it....LOVE!

In addition to loving love, I think supporting small businesses is fantastic. Being a small business owner may have something to do with that :)

I'm hoping to buy this soon and take a pic so you can see me with it on! (hint, hint, Love) (I guess I should tell you my hubs follows my blog)  ;-)

Here's the link to the item if you're interested in purchasing it for yourself:

Manic Monday

Here we are again....Monday.  After a fantastic weekend with my hubby, I've got to get back into the swing of things here at the house.  I have a little over 3 months until my trip to Costa Rica to see my family. I realized it's time to get down to business with  my weight loss. I've put it off long enough.

My plan is to start back at the gym (which I did this morning) and limit my calorie intake.  I've done it before (for my wedding), so I know I can do it again. I just lack motivation. I know that a vacation should be enough motivation for anyone, but it really hasn't been.  For my wedding, I was completely focused. I never cheated once....I was very proud of myself.  I wish I could get that focus back.  Well, I just know that I'm going to try my hardest. If I can lose at least 5-7 lbs per month, that would be awesome.  We'll see and I'll let y'all know how my progress is going.

I swear, this is what my scale says when I get on! lol

Fashion Fridays (and a website review)

While it's definitely not couture, I absolutely love this shirt. So much so, that my hubby bought it for me this morning. I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan and fell in love with the shirt from www.shirt.woot.com. (more on this site below)  He knows I'm notorious for cutting up tshirts and this one would be perfect for my next project! Did I mention how wonderful he is?

Their main site is www.woot.com but they have links to their other sites for their daily wine and tshirts. This is a great site to check every day for some great deals. I've bought several things from here and have been pleased.  I especially love their "Woot offs". This is where they have deals on different items all day long. When one item sells out, then it's on to the next!

The best is when they have what's called their "Bag of Crap".  It sells for $1 (with $5 shipping).  Sometimes, you get a bag of several items which you may or may not be able to use.  I have also heard that you may be one of the lucky ones where they have some kicka$$ item that are worth a pretty penny! So, I guess it's just the luck of the draw.  You have to be extremely fast on these (like getting up at midnight to check the site...this is when they post something new), because the bag of crap usually sells out within a couple of hours, if not, minutes! These are hot sellers!

Happy shopping!
