Feature Friday - Velvet and Shag

It's inevitable...everytime I list something, I find something I want to buy :)   I love vintage clothing. However, since I can't always find things to fit me (I'm a plus sized gal), I love to shop vintage home decor.  We recently moved into a house built in the 50's and there are some rooms with poor lighting. I found this amazing Mid Century lamp that I'm currently drooling over. It would go great in my bedroom.  I found it in this cute little shop called Velvet and Shag.  She specializes in  "mid century period pieces that lend a nod to the "Mad Men" aesthetic".

Check out the lamp I found

So, I showed it to my hubby (so maybe he would surprise me and buy it...yeah, right!) and do you know what he says???? I love the owl! Typical man....lost focus on the main point. hahaha.  Although, the owl is a little cutie too.

Go check out her shop. Obviously, she has some pretty cool stuff! Here's the link to her website which has links to all her stores, FB, Twitter, Tumblr and her blog!

Fall Trends - Jade Green

Among the many fall trends for 2011 are these beautiful Jade Green dresses. Why not go "green" and buy something similar in vintage? Save a TON of money and the planet at the same time!

Feature Friday

It's time to pick one of our many favs and feature it here on our lil ol' blog.

This weeks pick comes from Sally Jane Vintage. While curating our Oh My Stripes treasury, we found this ADORABLE red and white chevron dress. I swoon over it! Unfortunately, I am no where close to being a XS-S :( so I thought I'd share with you all.

Her shop is so freaking cute too! It's nice and organized (note to self: organize our Etsy shop to look like this). It makes for some great shopping (did I mention, it's super affordable too) I didn't find anything in her store that I didn't like.

via Sally Jane Vintage

It would look so cute with some red wedges (that I just happen to own).  Seriously, why can't I be a size XS-S?  Ok, moving on....Accessorized with some red and/or white bangles (bakelite perhaps?) YES!  Topped off with some cute, white cat eye sunglasses! Oh hell, let me just go ahead and show you what I mean:

via Vintage Bang Bang  (I just love their name too!)

via Oh Vera

via Blue Berry Deluxe

It's still hot out there (well, here in Houston it is) so this cute little ensemble would be perfect!

Ok, so I featured a few more things today, but who's counting? I hope you enjoyed todays post and visit the shops featured.  They really so have some great items!

Have a great vintage weekend!

Our Weekly Fav - Victory Vintage Boutique

Hello fellow vintage lovers! As promised, here is our weekly feature for a new favorite item. This one is from fellow vintage seller and blogger Victory Vintage Boutique.

Brande is the brains behind VVB and is the sweetest and most helpful person we have met online! I hope to meet her in person one day. Until then, I am happy to read her blog and see her stylings every week. Here is one of the items she has in her shop right now that we've fallen in love with.

I even told her that the dress looks FAB on her....too FAB to sell. I personally think she needs to keep it. Have I mentioned how adorable she is?

Weekly Pick

Hello vintage lovers! I know, I know...it's been a LONG while since we've posted. Things have been super crazy around here and we're just now getting back into the swing of things. I pinky promise, there will be more posts.

We'd like to start promoting others selling Vintage on our blog and thought...what better way than to have a weekly pick?  We like to see others succeed and this might be the way to help :)

This week, we're going to be a little selfish and promote our own item to start this weekly pick feature :O

It's an item we've had in our shop for a while and can't understand why??!! We took it to a pop up shop and had everyone RAVE about it. Unfortunately, it didn't fit the people interested in it. I for one, would keep it, but alas, it doesn't fit me either. *Mental note...schedule time for excercise and diet.  Hmmm, maybe not though. If it were to lose weight, I'd keep everything I find and not share everything with y'all! I'd also be broke. I don't think my hubby would like that. We'd begin to fight about money. My marriage would end...you see where I'm going with this, don't you? I MUST share!

Without further ado....

Why we've been MIA

Soooooo, we've been sort of MIA lately. Why? Well, because we are hosting a pop up shop event here in Houston. We are so excited (it's in less than 2 weeks). We are up to 13 vendors now!

Things have been going great, it's just so time consuming. We haven't had a chance to list much on our Etsy shop. We've been hand washing, steaming, measuring, tagging, emailing vendors, shopping, etc.  The list goes on and on.

We promise, after April 9th, we'll be back in full swing! In the meantime, if you're in Houston, swing by Griff's Irish Pub's parking lot for our event. There will be a DJ for entertainment and the pub will be open for business. You know what that means in addition to all the vintage goodies? Lot's of food and booze!

Just a few pics of all the madness going on in my house right now. The pics of the clothing are just a tiny preview of what we have.  The pic of the box are our goodie bags which includes a a few things including the bookmarks in the last pic.

Have a great day lovelies and see you soon!

Celebrate March Wearing Green

March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day......do you have your Lucky Green ensemble ready to show off????  There will be lots of St. Patrick’s Day events going on all around so for those of you who are in the warmer states, this beautiful green 1960’s spring dress is perfect for enjoying the festivities!  The color is effervescent !
1960's Mod Dress

The dress shown below is a bit more reserved yet the color and pattern tastefully publicize a fun and vibrant persona.  This 1960’s checkered dress is perfect for the office or elegant dinner setting.
1960's Green Checked Dress

If you aren’t into the full spirit of the Irish then perhaps the classic Givenchy choker shown below will entice you into wearing green for the day.  It’s also a perfect vintage birthstone emblem!  Green is also the color for saving the earth!
1980's Emerald Givenchy Choker
Still not convinced to wear green for the day??? Well, if for no other reason, wear green for peace of mind!  According to color psychology, “Green is the pervasive color in the natural world ….. greens are seen as tranquil and refreshing…..Green is considered the color of peace and ecology.”
Lovelies, in the spirit of green I hope you all have peace and harmony in your everyday lives!

Treasury Challenge

Lady Lux Vintage is honored to be a part of a WONDERFUL Etsy team called the "Vintage Etsy Twitter Team" or the VETT.  We can't tell you how many friendships we've made by being part of such an awesome team. Our goal is  to help and promote each other. There are so many positive and friendly people on our team. We really could go on and on about all of them :)

Our team started a treasury challenge that will run until March 15th.  A treasury is a collection of items being sold from different sellers on Etsy that have a common theme and/or color.  Honestly, you can pretty much make it whatever you want. The goal is to make it look pretty.

Our challenge includes items being sold from members of the VETT on Etsy. The winner gets featured on our team blog and our team Facebook page!  We would totally love to win, but more importantly, we would love for one of our treasuries to make it to the front page of Etsy. That would give ALL of the teamies tremendous exposure, which is our ultimate goal! That's where YOU come in! If you follow Lady Lux Vintage on Twitter then you'll be able to see all our tweets about the treasuries being created for the VETT. All you have to do it click on them and comment on our treasuries! The more comments, the more popular our treasuries become. The more popular they become, the better our chance at getting on the front page of Etsy!

Here is just a sample of what they look like:

This was the first treasury Lady Lux Vintage (ldylux on Etsy) created. What do you think?

Chic Red White and Blue

Happy President’s Day to all you Lovelies!  In honor of this American holiday I am presenting vintage red, white, and blue.  This electrifying vintage ensemble is stylish and patriotic!  I would encourage anyone to show off their American spirit….dazzle those around you with the life this dress symbolizes!!!  Remember the Fourth of July is just a few months away Lovelies!!

60's Red White and Blue Dress

Polka dots are fun!  This red and white polka dot dress is eye-catching and the pearls are so First Lady like.  Reveal your exuberance in a sophisticated kind of way !
60s Red Polka Dot Dress
The two piece dress below is an 80’s style.  It reminds me of the 80’s soap opera, Dynasty actress Linda Evans because of its attached shoulder pads.  I was always an admirer of Linda Evans because of her ability to adorn her wardrobe in spite of her height and broad shoulders.  To all the tall broad shouldered Lovelies out there, you can also stride in style!

Accessorize any of these outfits or one of your own with these fabulous jewels and handbags.

Celebrate Love Vintage Style

The countdown has begun for the day of love…….
Saint Valentine’s Day!    Red is worn on Valentine’s Day as a representation of love, hence the giving of red roses which according to Greek mythology was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love.  In honor of Venus, Goddess of Love, I have chosen this beautiful bright red and white two piece ensemble as a top favorite must have!  This 80's Maggy London International original was designed by Jeannene Booher who is now retired.  This outfit is perfect for the sophisticated professional to wear to the office and out to dinner.
The Goddess of Love was not the only Royal icon who favored the color red....... the late Princess Diana also favored the color red.  Red is a very strong and noticeable color, mix red with white polka dots and you have a person with a zest for life.  Princess Diana impacted many lives and was a highly regarded fashion icon, as quoted by InStyle magazine, “it was not what she wore but the way she wore it…” I challenge you Lovelies to show off your vibrancy this Valentine's Day with this red and white polka dot dress……Princess Diana didn’t fear fashion and neither should you!

There will be more Valentine Fashions to come in the next blog!  Stay with us Lovelies !

Vintage Bridal Gowns

The bridal gown is a crucial element of the wedding planning process because the dress represents the essence of the bride.  Everyone knows that wedding gowns are outrageously expensive and with the economic times we are faced with as a nation, budget weddings are becoming more popular !  The wedding planning process is overwhelming enough as it is, so Lovelies consider purchasing a vintage bridal gown.  Vintage gowns are classic and affordable.

The bridal gown shown below is antique laced and slightly beaded.  It is a classic because it reveals romance and true femininity and most importantly it represents something that has been lost in time and that my Lovelies, is tradition.

Victorian Style Wedding Gown

The gown below is sheer elegance with a hint of tradition.
Vintage Wedding Dress
For the winter bride, this elegant, metallic, swirled patterned, floor length, brocade coat is gorgeous !

Envision a winter wonderland wedding theme with sparkling white lights all around, the groom waiting for his bride as she arrives in a carriage of white horses laced with red roses and the bride as beautiful as the winter snow arriving in her beautiful gown with this almost white, very detailed coat, everyone would think this was custom made for the bride!  No one would have to know our little secret!  If not for the bride then it would be a great fit for anyone in the bridal party.  No need to fear this coat is not confined to a wedding it can also be worn to dinner parties, theatre, opera, ballet, anywhere during those cold winter days.  Lovelies I highly recommend this coat………I assure you it is a beauty!
Vintage Brocade Coat

If I haven't sold you on the vintage idea then consider this..... the wedding trends for 2011 are going vintage, according to stylishweddingideas.com, "the past is back..........wearing your mother or grandmother's wedding dress.......is trendy these days."

Have a wonderful weekend lovelies!

VINTAGE COATS

Ahhhh! It’s finally starting to feel like winter here in Texas which means it’s time to pull out the coats! I’m sure those of you in the Northern states and Northern globe have already been feeling the cold temperatures but just because the weather is cold and the skies are gray does not mean that our wardrobe has to be compromised. You can still cover up with a warm coat in style…….

When I think vintage......the trench coat comes to mind. The trench style coat has been a popular fashion since the 1800's and continues to be recreated in every era of the fashion industry. The three coats featured today are my personal favorites, cashmere, wool, and leather.  These fabrics are classics in the fashion industry because they too have been in use since the 1800’s, the fabric is exceptionally warm and modish.
The featured cashmere coat is a classic and a "must have fashion", according to Glamour magazine and top designers.  The camel shade is the new black in the fashion world so if you ladies are all about vogue and vintage, this coat delivers the best of both worlds!

For the fierce Lovelies, this posh, darker leather, camel shaded coat is for you…..sport this HOT tube dress along with these awesome boots and accessories……Oooolala ! Who said you had to look dreary in this wintry climate???

If you are anything like me, black is an imperative part of my wardrobe and this black, wool, embroidered coat is perfect for those cold winter days upon us. Black is always classy and goes well with any attire and it can be worn casually or extravagantly. Whatever the fad is or your color preference check out online sellers before going to your local retail stores ! Chances are you will find a much better buy with vintage sellers, after all "the novelties of one generation are only the resuscitated fashions of the generation before last!"

Stay Warm My Lovelies !

The next day perhaps you might want to reveal a haute punk 80’s attitude! This black gold studded jacket is great and offers a versatile look. This jacket over a plain black tee with leggings and stylish boots screams confidence, style, and attitude……..

Black Corduroy Studded Jacket
Not you?? You can dress this same outfit down for a simpler sophisticated look by wearing a nice pair of black flats or dare to be different with these black striped pumps..........
