Football Fashion

I know not everyone is a football fan.  Heck, it wasn't until we got our very own Houston Texans, that I became a fan myself.  Oh, I remember watching the Houston Oilers with my daddy, but when the teen years hit, I lost interest.  Friends and fashion came into my life and I pretty much never looked back.  Until now.....

I realize you can mix the 2 together! Not only that, but handmade and vintage fashion at that. Check it out:

Myself and my cousin, Dee
I crocheted my beanie and attached a red, white and blue vintage star brooch to it. My ring and red wood bead necklace are also vintage. The gray Wilson's leather jacket I'm wearing is from my good friend Qiana from Eklectic Xplosion Vintage

I wore a plain white T that I decorated with the Patriots logo. I just looked up their logo on the internet, traced it with a pen, pinned it under my shirt and used fabric markers to do the rest. I layered it with a dark blue long sleeve T underneath.

Overall, we had a great time. I won almost all the end of the quarter pots...yay me!

The half time show was awesome. Madonna killed it. I heard she had even pulled a hamstring earlier in the week and STILL performed! I tell ya, I want to be able to rock like her at 53! Between her performance and the David Beckham commercial, my eyes were glued to the television!

How did you spend your Super Bowl Sunday?

Luau's and tissue flowers

Happy Monday to all!

One of my daily  blogs that I read is Diary of a Crafty Chica.  I was extremely excited about her post today because she has a tutorial on how to make tissue flowers.  Well, I happen to be planning a Luau for the 4th of July weekend and I haven't begun to experiment yet, but I had totally planned on making my own flowers as part of our decor! Low and behold I see her post....YIPPEEEEEE! She made it super easy for me. No research needed! Thanks Kathy!

To Prom or Not to Prom?

As you all know, my son is 18 and graduating this year (gulp...did I just say that?).  We were talking last week and I asked him what we needed to do to get ready for his prom.  Meaning, tux, transportation, dinner, etc.  We, he informed me that he's not going! I was really shocked!  I mean, I know his girlfriend isn't in town and he wouldn't be going with anyone in particular, but I thought he'd at least go with friends.

Our discussion continued on by me saying the usual mom thing. This is the only opportunity you'll have to go to prom. You'll miss out on this experience and you'll regret it later.  You know, what everyone tells you if you decide not to go.  He proceeded to tell me that he just wasn't interested in going.  That isn't his scene or type of thing he likes to do (which is true).  He's such a laid back kid, keeps to himself, doesn't go out and stays home all the time.  He's the complete opposite of me!

While I'm sad that he's going to miss out on this experience, it's just par for his entire HS life. He's never taken any interest in any dances or outings. I've had to come to terms that he's not going and although I'm upset about it, I'm still so proud of the man he's become.  He stands up for what he believes in and is a leader, not a follower.

I love my son!

Is it a vodka Friday tomorrow?

A few posts back I had mentioned "vodka Fridays" and promised to explain it later on. As I sit here finally relaxing after a long day of cooking, cleaning and preparing for one of my best friend's bday tomorrow, I figured now is as good a time as any.

Vodka Friday's came about quite some time ago when I would work from home on Fridays and my friends would come over for some fun in the sun by my pool. After I was finished with all my work, we would go outside and layout and drink vodka and tonic drinks. Hence the name: Vodka Fridays. This continued for pretty much every Friday until I was told we could no longer work from home :(

Now that I am no longer working, vodka Friday's have started up again (usually when the weather gets warmer). We've only had one so far because of scheduling conflicts, but we are back on tomorrow! My best friends bday happens to land on a Friday, so what better way to celebrate? This Friday however, we will have a brunch for her since her hubby has plans Friday night. So, in lieu of vodka, we will have Mimosas!

I've spent the whole day preparing for her brunch. Cleaning, cooking, and baking. I really hope it doesn't rain (there is a 30% chance). More importantly, I really hope she enjoys herself.

I also wanted to share a recipe from Food Network that I tried today. It's for a mini quiche. Specifically a Mini Mushroom and Sausage quiche. Please see below for the link to the recipe. I did tweak the recipe some by adding bacon, caramelized onions and shredded colby jack cheese in addition to the mushrooms and sausage. Also, I added a tiny bit of salt and pepper to the egg mixture for flavor. I had to prepare all the ingredients separately because the bday girl does not like mushrooms. So I made a special batch for her.

Of course, I had try one to make sure they were edible. WOWSA! They were awesome!

Some of the reviews had said that the mixture was too runny or juicy, but that if you made them the day before, refrigerated them and reheated them the next day they are much better. That's why I made them today. If they are better than they were today, then my guests are going to LOVE me! :) I will let y'all know!

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig!!! (Happy St. Patrick's Day in Gaelic)

This is one of my favorite days of the year. I  look forward to hanging out with friends and family at our usual spot, Griff's Shenanigans Bar in Montrose.

Each year my friends and I make sure we have the day off to prepare (i know...we're dorks!).  Last night I went above what I usually do and painted my nails..have a look:

you like?

I know it's only 10:00 am but I've been waiting weeks for one of these:

can't wait!

Here's wishing you the best St. Patty's day ever and stay safe out there!

New beginnings

I say new beginnings because my son (who just turned 18 yesterday) will be going off to college in August.  These will be new beginnings for the both of us. He's not your traditional 18 year old. He's an old soul in a teens body.  Funny thing is he realizes and accepts it.  He doesn't have his driver's license yet and is in really no hurry to get it. He rarely goes out. I've told my friends he reminds me of the kid on "Sixteen Candles" where the parents try and force him to go to the dance and he runs out saying "but I just want to be with you guys!".  How times have changed from my days. I couldn't wait to get out of the house to party with my friends.  It's actually comforting knowing that he's safe though.

I've decided to start this blog because of the simple fact that he is leaving and I will need something to take my mind off the fact that he won't be here :)  Besides that, I love to share my ideas for fashion, parties and crafts!

I will also be doing testing and reporting on trendy, stylish and budget friendly products that you may be interested in.  Look out for them!

This is my son. Isn't he handsome? Everyone says he looks like Joe Jonas and he HATES that! I laugh every time!
